RIGS AND DRILLING EQUIPMENT
INDUSTRY PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The lecturer and responsible publisher of this compendium is Geir Ove Eikill. He has 15 years as responsible course lecture for Equinor’s Rig and Equipment courses, and Industry Project Management course module.
The ERC training course modules have been a compulsory part of EQN’s graduate training program for all newly recruited Safety, Project, Procurement, and D&W employees over the last 15 years.
MODULE 1 - RIGS AND DRILLING EQUIPMENT (3 days course)
Objective of the course:
This course shall provide participants with an understanding of activity, capacity, and safety technical rig requirements for the different drilling operations, with special focus on:
Introduction to drilling methods
Drilling system and Equipment.
Field development solutions
Maritime systems
Environmental emissions from drilling operations
Digitalization, remote and automatic drilling control technologies.
Maintenance system
Further, this course includes touring a real-life drilling operation at the Drilling facility to view all basic drilling systems while in operation on the Ullrigg in Stavanger.
Participants will gain a basic understanding of Drilling operations, Field development solutions, Drilling systems, and Drilling equipment.
MODULE 2 - RIGS AND DRILLING EQUIPMENT (2 days course)
Objective of the course:
This course shall provide participants with an understanding of activity, capacity, and safety technical rig requirements for the different drilling operations, with special focus on Drilling:
Safety
Efficiency
Flexibility
Cost-effective operations
Minimizing environmental CO2 exposure
The participants will be able to give an account of all critical requirements for drilling rigs and drilling equipment related to planned drilling and well operations from fixed and mobile platforms. Further, the course will provide an introduction to the Rig procurement process and the Industry Rig Intake execution model, in compliance with the Class, Flag, and Authority AOC regulations.

Introduction to the Industry regulatory fundamentals
HSE Safety case (UK)
AoC model (NCS)
Introduction to the Industry Project & Operation model_2025
EPCIC Turn-Key contract model
Industry execution strategy
Industry execution Management system
The participants shall have a basic understanding of the industry Project & Operation model, in compliance with the Class, Flag, and Authority regulations.
